Experience the Battle of Princeton 2024/Orders #2—Order of Battle and Important Reminders for Continental Forces

Below please find the Order of Battle for the Princeton event next week. Following are important reminders for all participants. Please share this information broadly with all those in your units who will be attending.

ALTHOUGH NOT NOTED BELOW, SPECIAL THANKS GOES TO DAVE SKORKA OF THE 2ND NEW JERSEY REGIMENT, WHO WILL BE PORTRAYING GENERAL HUGH MERCER ON THE FIELD AND ACCORDINGLY BE PUT TO THE POINT OF THE BAYONET.

As with last year, it will be necessary to divide our infantry battalion into two wings for portions of the event. As such, appropriate field officers have been designated to command those wings. They will report directly to me.

As of today, we have nearly 175 infantry, 4 cannon and crews, 12 horses, and 12 field musicians slated to attend. Huzzay to you all!

Arrival Time and Parking Considerations

The site will open at 6:30 a.m. and all reenactors are being asked to arrive by 7:30 a.m. at the latest in order to make sure they receive parking on site.

While parking is sufficient for our needs, it is also limited. It is vital for reenactors to arrive early. When the general public begins to arrive, the site will fill quickly and anyone arriving after that point will be directed to overflow parking offsite.

Reenactors will receive priority, but please get there when requested. Kindly note that we have a number of artillery pieces and horses coming as well. Please be patient with our friends from those branches of service as they maneuver vehicles. Artillery will be given proximity parking priority and horse trailers will park in their own designated area.

Staff from an event parking contractor as well as Princeton Police will be on hand to direct parking. Kindly follow their instructions.  Mercer Road will be completely closed to all vehicular traffic beginning at 9:30 a.m.

N.B. After parking, all Continental troops should proceed immediately to the rear of the Thomas Clarke House on the battlefield. Warming fires will already be lit and waiting for you.

Site Map

A site map is attached marking important locations relative to parking. For perspective, kindly note that the blue box denotes the Thomas Clarke House area and the square orange box denotes the small parking lot near the entrance to the park on Mercer Road.

Appearance of the Troops

All military personnel are to make the best possible effort to present a neat, military appearance. As such, firelocks and all other equipment should be clean and serviceable.  Plan to dress for the weather. Your regimental coats for early 1777, civilian clothing, or hunting shirts over period coats are all preferred for this event.

Of particular note is the strong preference (and soon to be requirement) for all to be clean shaven to the extent that there is no more than three days of beard growth by the conclusion of the event in keeping with the dictates of various military manuals of the period.

Beginning in 2025, the need to be clean shaven will be an absolute requirement to attend this event.

N.B. All men under arms in the infantry battalion will fight as line infantry. None of the brigades we are portraying utilized light troops or rifles as scouts or skirmishers.  Additional information and orders, inclusive of an order of battle, will be forthcoming.
