The British in Newark!
Notes: This is part of the History Hikes series sponsored by the City of Newark Parks and Recreation Department. The hikes are led by Dr. Jim Jones, who has led several hikes over the past few years and is currently writing a book about Newark history.
The theme of this particular hike is "The British March through Newark." It will start at 10 am near the Galleria and proceed south on Main Street with a couple of stops. The hikers will arrive at the Academy Building at approx. 11:00 am. Jim will start his speech when - surprise - the British musicians will march around the Academy Street side of the building and stop in front. The flag bearer will lead the chant of "Huzzah for King George," then ask any recruits to fall in with us. Then we will march away in the direction of…
