***Valley Forge March-In Commemoration/Registration is Open! (Thursday, December 19th)***

Greetings, everyone! I am reaching out to share that registration for the official commemoration of the March-In to Valley Forge will take place on the evening of Thursday, December 19th and to announce that registration for this event is officially open!

I have been asked by Valley Forge National Historical Park to serve as the official Living History Volunteer Coordinator for the event again this year. Some initial information as well as the registration link can be found below.

First and foremost, on behalf of the National Park Service, I extend deep gratitude for your interest in volunteering at this important event. It is a keystone of the park's living history programming and it would not be possible without your time and expertise. Last year, we had approximately 50 participants and we are looking to equal if not exceed that headcount this year.

Registration

As in years past, registration will be on an individual basis as all participants will serve as volunteers on behalf of the National Park Service for the evening. Here is the link to register https://forms.gle/KxV2eSbqK3HPSjNR6

Impression Standards and Guidelines We are portraying the Continental Army in late 1777 and at the conclusion of the Philadelphia campaign. As such, any appropriate uniforms for your home unit for that period will be appropriate. A mixture of civilian clothing is also appropriate as are hunting shirts. Clothing should be well fitted and of correct natural fabrics. It is expected that all military personnel will either by clean shaven or exhibit no more than three days growth of facial hair. Modern eyewear is discouraged unless it is a necessity for the individual.

Arrival Time and Parking Location Please plan to arrive by 4:30 p.m.-4:45 p.m. at the latest. All living history volunteers are asked to park in the NPS administration building parking lot. To access this lot, enter the park from the main park entrance at the intersection of PA Route 23 and North Gulph Road. After entering the park, make a right at the second stop sign you encounter and you will be in the appropriate parking lot.

Mandatory NPS Event Information and Safety Briefing There will be a mandatory event information and safety briefing held at 5:00 p.m. in the Meeting Room building. This building is adjacent to the lot where you will be parked.

This briefing will be led by NPS staff and your volunteer paperwork will be prepared in advance for you to sign when you arrive and check in.

Dinner Pizza and beverages will be provided for all volunteers by NPS during the safety briefing.

Firearms When you arrive please leave your firelocks stowed securely in your locked vehicle. The briefing is being held inside a Federal building and Federal law prohibits us from carrying firearms of any kind in that area.

Edged Weapons Bayonets and swords may be brought to the event and carried but should remain sheathed unless you are provided with different instruction by NPS personnel.

Ammunition This is a non-firing event. Please leave all rounds at home and come with empty cartridge pouches.

Safety Inspection: Immediately following the briefing, all military personnel will obtain their firelocks from their vehicles and form on the Mini Grand Parade noted on the map. As you will see, it is located between your cars and the MeetingRoom. NPS personnel will conduct a safety inspection at that time.

Programming Hours and Assignments The public program runs 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Following inspections, all volunteer personnel will move to assigned interpretive locations. Those assignments will be made in the coming months pending participant interest and site needs.

Site Map As in years past, VFNHP will develop a detailed site map for the event. It will be finalized in the coming months and shared when available.
